PRESSTiJ Santai Merdeka : Broga 2.0
Broga, 30 Aug.- We gathered at the Broga hillside at around 7 in the morning and waited for the arrival of Dato’ IR Nasir together with his family. Before climbing, we warmed up and carried light exercises led by one of the alumni, a ‘Ketua Belia Tampin’. Most of the alumni wore T-shirts of respective batches, some wore STJ ’98, some wore STJ ’85 and such. They were enthusiastic, especially when most of them brought families, and they wore STJ T-shirts too! We started climbing at around 7.30.
We were supportive of each other and shouted encouragements when someone was exhausted, or when one needed help. This annual gathering was seen as some kind of a catalyst to bond all alumni and create network, where it is very important nowadays. Our stamina were challenged and proved to be a great climb for we showed values of what an STJ student should have; valor, teamwork and brotherhood.
After 30 minutes of climbing, we finally made it to the top. It was spectacular, with the view of Semenyih revealed by the morning sun. Most of the alumni who got there first were the younger alumni, obviously. Even though the older alumni were quite challenged, they proved that they were still young inside by making it to the top. Old, but gold.
The alumni across generations, be it young or old, got to know each other and talked about almost anything. They took pictures, shook hands and exchanged phone numbers. It was quite extraordinary how generations transcend and was not an issue.
After resting for quite some time, we climbed downhill and this time, it took them much faster. Right after we got to hillside, we gathered and dined on ‘Nasi Lemak Ayam Kari’, prepared by one of the alumni’s family. We finished everything at around 11115. All of us started to scurry out and one by one, the alumni went back home.
It is hoped that this kind of gathering be held again for many years ahead. More are expected to join and hopefully next time, we can take on bigger hills and mountains. Everest, perhaps?
